Dr. Patrice Parker Waller holds the title of Associate Professor of Mathematics Secondary Education at California State University, Fullerton where she supports the training and preparation of secondary mathematics teachers. Patrice is currently serving as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in the Division of Undergraduate Education in the Directorate of STEM Education.
Throughout Dr. Waller’s 15+ year career in mathematics education, she has helped to prepare 100+ secondary mathematics teachers in Virginia and California. She holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University. Her research interests include culturally responsive mathematics teaching in secondary mathematics, pre-service and in-service teacher development, and teaching and learning mathematics abroad. Patrice has authored/co-authored several articles and book chapters and conducted many presentations in these research areas. Dr. Waller has conducted research in several countries, including Brazil, South Africa, Morocco, and Ghana, to explore the teaching of mathematics and to examine instances of mathematics embedded in various cultures. She has also taken groups of pre-service math and science teachers to Johannesburg, South Africa to teach mathematics and science in schools while exploring cultural components and lived experiences of the local people.
Dr. Waller is also the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship where she was given the opportunity to explore women and education in Belize. She was also an Association of Mathematics Teacher Education (AMTE) STaR Fellow and an ELEVATE Fellow, a program that acknowledges and supports promising junior faculty from Minority Serving Institutions.
